2026 Annual child safety statement of compliance with the Commonwealth Child Safety Framework
The Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR) is committed to providing and maintaining a safe environment for all children and young people. We support the principles of the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework and recognise that keeping children safe is a shared responsibility across our organisation.
ANNPSR has limited interaction with children and young people as part of its operations. The nature of our work does not routinely involve the delivery of services to, or direct engagement with, children and young people. Any interactions that do occur are generally incidental to broader organisational activities, including stakeholder engagement, outreach activities, and educational initiatives.
In 2026, ANNPSR completed its first annual Child Safety Risk Assessment in accordance with the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework. The assessment considered the nature of our functions and operations, potential points of interaction with children and young people, governance arrangements, existing policies and procedures, and mechanisms for identifying and managing risks. The assessment concluded that ANNPSR's overall child safety risk is low, with existing controls considered appropriate and proportionate to the level of risk identified.
To mitigate identified risks and support a child-safe culture, ANNPSR has implemented a number of measures, including:
- maintaining awareness of Commonwealth child safety requirements
- considering child safety risks through annual risk assessment processes
- promoting staff awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and expected standards of conduct
- ensuring that any child safety concerns identified through organisational activities are appropriately reported and managed.
Based on its 2026 assessment, ANNPSR considers itself compliant with the requirements of the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework that are relevant and proportionate to its operations and risk profile. No material instances of non-compliance were identified during the reporting period. ANNPSR will continue to review its arrangements and identify opportunities for improvement as part of its commitment to continuous improvement.
Child safety initiatives undertaken during 2026 included the completion of ANNPSR's inaugural child safety risk assessment, consideration of child safety obligations within governance processes, and raising organisational awareness of safeguarding responsibilities. Planned initiatives for 2027 include reviewing the annual child safety risk assessment, monitoring any changes to operational activities that may affect child safety risk, and continuing to promote awareness of child safety responsibilities across the organisation.
Through ongoing review and continuous improvement, ANNPSR aims to ensure its child safety practices remain effective, fit for purpose, and aligned with Commonwealth requirements.
