How to apply
All current employment opportunities can be found on our Career Opportunities website. It is important that all applicants read the eligibility requirements and familiarise yourself with the application process below before submitting an application.
Application Process
Before starting an application, all applicants should complete the following:
- Read the Eligibility requirements; and
- Ensure you are able to provide academic verification documentation if the position you are applying for requires a mandatory qualification. Applicants currently completing a qualification during the application process will be required to verify completion if found suitable.
Once you have checked your eligibility, you will need to submit an online application through the application portal.
Application information will need to include:
- personal details
- a copy of required qualification (if applicable)
- details of 2 referees
- a CV including key academic and professional achievements
- a response to the required behavioural competencies for the position you are applying for.
The selection panel will review all applications after the closing date and determine those who are suitable to progress to the next stage.
Applicants who satisfy eligibility, application and shortlisting requirements will be invited to attend further assessment. This will generally be in the form of an interview, which can be facilitated in-person or remotely where required.
Applicants who are found suitable and/or being placed on the merit pool will be notified by email.
Unsuccessful applicants will be notified via email.
Referee reports assist the selection panel to verify information shared throughout the selection process and are a mandatory component of merit-based recruitment activities.
Nominated referees will be asked to complete a referee report by email or over the phone.
Candidates who are found suitable as part of a recruitment activity are required to undergo additional Suitability Screening.
Due to the sensitive work undertaken by the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator, all potential candidates must successfully complete and pass these checks before a formal offer of employment can be provided.
Based on the outcomes of the Suitability Screening, successful candidates will be provided with a formal offer of employment.
This may take 4-6 weeks after completing the additional Suitability Screening.
All employees are required to undergo comprehensive security clearance processing prior to commencement.
The security clearance process consists of multiple steps and can take several months to complete depending on the level of clearance required.
It is encouraged to complete the security clearance application promptly as delays can impact your start date.
Security clearances are managed independently from the initial suitability screening assessment conducted during the recruitment process.
Where a preferred candidate is unable to obtain the required security clearance, their recommendation for employment with the agency will be withdrawn.
Throughout the duration of their employment, an employee must continue to maintain the appropriate level of security clearance as a condition of their ongoing employment.
Failure to maintain the required clearance may result in redeployment to another area and/or position. In circumstances where an employee’s security clearance is removed and cannot be regained, the individual’s employment with the agency may be terminated.
If you are currently employed, we advise that you do not resign from your current employment until a formal written offer has been received, start date has been provided and your security clearance has been received.
If you are found to be a suitable candidate but not offered the position you applied for, you will be placed in a merit pool.
Candidates in our merit pools may be considered for similar roles within other Australian Public Services Agencies if indicated at the time of application.
A merit pool is a group of candidates who have been assessed as being equally suitable for the position they applied for but not the preferred candidate for the role. As these candidates are not ranked, any candidate may be selected to fill a similar vacancy.
All selections are based on merit. More information about merit selection can be found on the Australian Public Service Merit principles webpage.
